Asheville - A.G. Carver, Jr., 78, died Sunday, August 8, 1999 at his residence.

A native of Winston-Salem, he was the son of the late Andrew Grady Carver, Sr., who died in 1987 and was also preceded in death by his sister, Carol Cassis.

Mr. Carver was an Army Air Corps veteran of W.W. II, flying the “hump” for 2 years and receiving the Air Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross.  He was owner of A.G. Carver Real Estate, active since its beginning in 1957 until his retirement in 1982.  He was a member and past Secretary of the Asheville Board of Realtors, receiving an honorary lifetime  membership in 1985.  He was the first Certified Property Manager in Western North Carolina.  He also was one of the founders of the Exchange Club and was a member of Central United Methodist Church.

He was a good husband, father and grandfather, survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Evelyn M. Carver; children, Judy Carver and her husband Stuart Lewis of Asheville, Greg Carver and his wife, Nancy, of Freedom, Maine and his granddaughter, Michelle Carver.

A memorial service will be held at 3 pm Thursday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Rev. Rob Blackburn.  A private graveside service was held at Lewis Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home on Long Shoals Road and at other times will be at the residence.
