Andy M. Nesbitt, 75, of 1361 Garren Creek Road, Fairview, died Friday, May 12, 2000, in an Asheville hospital.

Mr. Nesbitt was a native of Buncombe County and was a son of the late Andrew Roscoe and Elizabeth Wright Nesbitt. He was an Army veteran of WW II and worked at Sayles Biltmore Bleacheries for 35 years. He was a former member and Board Member of the Garren Creek VFD and at the time of his death was an honorary fireman. He was also a member of the Bassmasters Fishing Club.

He was a member of Nesbitt’s Chapel United Methodist Church where he was former song leader, Board Member and Sunday school teacher.

He is survived by his wife, Rhoda Owenby Nesbitt; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Shirley Nesbitt of Fairview; two daughters, Joyce Wright and Gail Nesbitt, both of the home; seven sisters, Barbara Banks, Ruby Swank, Pauline Latham and Catherine Lytle of Fairview, Lettie Gentle of Fletcher, and Louise Bishop and Nannie Randolph of Hendersonville; five brothers, David Nesbitt, Bill Nesbitt and Sam Nesbitt of Fairview, Tom Nesbitt of Black Mountain and Floyd Nesbitt of Hendersonville; five grandchildren, Dawn Wright, Trey Nesbitt, Wendy Wheeler, Alan Wright and Shannon Nesbitt and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Wright and Natalie Wright.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday at Nesbitt’s Chapel United Methodist Church with the Revs. Avery Owenby and Robert M. Harris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 9 pm Sunday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian where Mr. Nesbitt will remain until being placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
