June 4, 1937 ~ February 26, 2024

Born in: Bryson City, NC
Resided in: Candler, NC

Ann Kay Floyd Penland passed away Monday, February 26 at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Bryson City, NC on June 4, 1937 to Ferayle Davis Floyd and Lonnie D. Floyd.

She graduated with honors from Swain County High School in June of 1955. She began her nursing education at Latta School For Nursing At Memorial Mission Hospital in 1955 and was on the honor roll. During the Christmas break she went on a blind date with Johnny W. Penland. Well…they were married in Bryson City, NC on July 26, 1956, and have been together in true happiness ever since.

In 1959 they had Ann Kathryn Penland and in 1962 they had Elizabeth Ann Penland. What a blessed family we have been. We lost Kathy Penland Buckner in 2023. Now beautiful, smiling Mother and beautiful smiling Daughter are reunited.

Ann and Johnny began Johnny Penland Auctions in 1985 until their retirement in 2002. They made lifelong friends in the auction and antiques business.

Left to always love and cherish her precious memory are her devoted husband of 67 years, Johnny W. Penland; her daughter, Beth Penland Tuten & Tommy Tuten; her son-in-law, Mike Buckner; grandchildren, John Buckner, Laura Buckner Mcmahan & Casey Mcmahan, Jared Tuten & Rosey; and great-grandchildren, Austin Mcmahan, Evan Mcmahan & Patrick Watts.

Ann adored her family, always. Her smile and sweet heart will always be loved and remembered. What a complete blessing she has been to so many. As she said in her final days, “For 67 years, it’s been a good ride”.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 1, at 12:30 p.m. in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Pastor Allen Rash officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill UMC Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. til 12:30 p.m. Friday, prior to the service.
