Anne Cooper Baylor Dowis

Anne Cooper Baylor Dowis, age seventy- five, daughter of the late Robert N. and Ruth Kirkman Baylor passed away on June 3rd, 2024. She was a beloved sister, sister-in-law, aunt, great aunt and friend and will be deeply missed by her family.

Anne was born on May 22, 1949 in Asheville, North Carolina where she spent her formative years. She graduated from Lee Edwards High School and then the University of Tennessee with a degree in Biology. While there, Anne was an active member and alumni of Delta Gamma Sorority. She later earned her Master’s in Elementary Education at UNC Greensboro and went on to become a National Board-Certified Teacher (NBCT). Throughout her long and impressive educational career as a teacher and later as a well-respected librarian, Anne was known for her meticulous detailed dedication for helping instill a love of reading to children in various North Carolina public schools.

Anne Baylor Dowis is survived to cherish her memory her siblings: Robert Baylor, William (Sheri) Baylor, Ellen (David) Vaughn and Frederick (Gail) Baylor; nieces Melissa Ramsey, Lindsey Baylor, Ellie Vaughn and Ashley Baylor; nephews Brett Baylor, and Kirk Vaughn; great- nieces Emma Ramsey and Elaina Baylor; and great-nephews Bennett Baylor, Brooks Baylor, Robert Ramsey and Rowan Vaughn.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 27 Church Street, Asheville, North Carolina, on August 3rd, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
