Annie Mae Lovelace, of Asheville, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, in an area nursing center. Miss Lovelace was born in Swain County and was preceded in death by her parents, Iver H. and Lelia Branton Lovelace and by four sisters and two brothers. She had lived in Buncombe County for most of her life and was retired after many years as an operator with Southern Bell Telephone Co. Her favorite pastime was playing with the Lion’s Club String Band which she enjoyed the most playing at area nursing facilities, churches and private parties. She was a life long member of First Church of Christ, Scientist. Miss Lovelace was a tender and caring aunt who will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by four nieces and nephews, Sandra King and her husband James, Tim Bell and his wife Becky, Larry Bell and his wife Bobbi, and Sylvia Hensley. A memorial service will be at 4:00 pm Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, officiated by Mrs. Winnie McGee, Reader. Private burial will be at Academy Cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service and request that memorials be made to the First Church of Christ, Scientist, 64 North French Broad Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801. The family expresses appreciation to the staff of Asheville Health Care Center for their many kindnesses.
