Argyle Hall Melton, 95, of Smith Farms, Fairview, formerly of Oak Hill Road, Candler, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at Fleshers Fairview Health Care Center.
Mrs. Melton was born in Buncombe County and was a
daughter of the late U.C. and Ora McFee Hall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Wayne Melton, a daughter, Kay M.
McKinney, and three grandchildren, Billy, Jack and Gerald Lands.
She was a former employee of Smith Farms and was a
member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church. She was an avid birdwatcher, an active member of
AARP, a volunteer for the Council on Aging and a member of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Melton is survived by two daughters, Patricia Lands and her husband Bob of Asheville and Janice Smith and her husband G.D. of
Fairview; ten grandchildren, Chuck McKinney, Tony, Rocky, Scott and Rod Smith, Sandy Toogood-Flynn, and Charlie, Joe, Tim and David Lands, and twenty great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 5:00 pm Sunday at Oak Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev.
Kimberly S. Higgins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Her family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service and request that memorials be made to Oak Hill United Methodist Church, 277 Oak Hill Church Road, Candler, NC 28715.
