Asheville – Arlene Ann Petersen McMath, 88, of Asheville, died Thursday, September 21, 2023 at Mission Hospital.
A native of Chicago, IL, she was a daughter of the late LaVerne Leary and Gordon Petersen. She was also preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Gordon Petersen, Jr. and Nancy Petersen.
Arlene retired as a Registered Nurse in San Diego, CA before deciding to relocate to Asheville. She enjoyed the opera, musicals, crossword puzzles and staying on the go.
She loved all her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. The miles between her and her family didn’t stop her from seeing them. Family gatherings will not be the same without her. She was the best aunt!
Arlene is survived by Stacey Shuler, Christine Steck, Trey Petersen and their families.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

We are so sorry to hear of Arlene’s passing. We really enjoyed the time we spent with her in Asheville when we would make our annual visit to Crowfields. She was a great neighbor to our parents at Crowfields when they would spend the summers there as well. We will miss our talks and dinners with her a lot…Asheville will not be the same for us without her. RIP.
