Arnold Douglas King
January 29, 1944 ~ September 15, 2001

Mr. King was born in Buncombe County and was a preceded in death by his parents, Wilkie Charles and Artie McElreath King and by a sister, Frankie King Prestwood. He was a 1963 graduate of Erwin High School and was a former coach of basketball and football with the Erwin Youth League. He was an avid golfer and was frozen food manager at Ingle’s supermarket at Innsbrook Mall.
He is survived by one son, Tracy D. King and his wife Lisa of Leicester; one sister, Hilda Gatch of Weaverville; two brothers, Herbert King and Wilburn R. King of Leicester; and nieces and nephews, Gary and Teresa Prestwood, Douglas and Tommy King, Kathryn Blackwell, Shane and Nicholas Meadows, and Shelley and Mark Henderson.
A memorial service will be at 12:00 noon Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. J. Derrill Smith officiating.
His family will receive friends immediately following the service and request that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the New York City Disaster Relief Fund in Care of the American Red Cross, 100 Edgewood Road, Asheville, NC 28804.

I met Arnold 20 years ago, it seems yesterday.I will always remember his generous spirit. If he was your friend he would do anything for you, give you anything with no hesitation.

For many years I saw Mr. King as I shopped at Ingles and he always had a smile and a hello. He helped make the Innsbruck Ingles feel like a neighborhood store, not a faceless supermarket. I’ll miss seeing him there.
