Audrey Noland Codnere

Audrey Noland Codnere, age 79, passed away Thursday, April 17 after several years of declining health. She was born in the Leicester Community to the late Jesse Virgil Noland and Myrtle McCrary Noland. After the family moved to Asheville, Audrey attended public elementary and junior high school and was graduated from St. Genevieve of the Pines. She received a bachelor of fine arts degree from Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and spent most of her professional career as an interior decorator. Audrey married John T. Codnere, M.D. in 1958 and they had thirty years of a happy and fulfilling marriage until his death in 1988. They enjoyed many international trips with emphasis on medical interests for John and art for Audrey. To assist her husband in his practice, Audrey attended Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College and graduated as a registered nurse and for a number of years, she worked in her husband's office. For the past several years Audrey had made her home at Ardenwoods Retirement Community. Mrs. Codnere was predeceased by her parents, husband and two sisters, Eva Noland Russell and Callie Noland Ferreri. She is survived by her brother, Jesse V. Noland, Jr. (Mary Ann), Houston, Texas, two nephews, three nieces and many loving and caring friends. A visitation will be held at Groce Funeral Home, 72 Long Shoals Road in Arden from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm on Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Immediately following the visitation there will be a graveside service at 1:00 pm at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. If friends wish to honor Audrey, she requested that donations be made to the charity of their choice.
