August Henry Hellwege, 71, of 14-D Ascension Court, Asheville, died Thursday, February 15, 2001, in an Asheville hospital.

Mr. Hellwege was born in North Bergen, NJ, and was a son of the late John and Clara Knoetzsch Hellwege. He was an Army veteran and had been employed as a security guard with Continental Teves.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Jean Mazza Hellwege; a son, Paul Hellwege of Asheville; a step-son Charles Kielson and his wife Kimberly of Canton; a sister, Clara Walsh of Houston, TX; and four grandchildren, Amanda, Samantha, Jacob, and Jordan Kielson.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Cayton officiating. Military rites will be provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

His family will receive friends from 5 - 7 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
