Aurelia Harris

Aurelia B. Harris, 88, went home to be with the Lord Monday, October 25, 2004. The daughter of J. Sidney and Mattie Merrill Harris, she was a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County. She was preceded in death by brothers Joseph and James Harris. She was a member of Oakley United Methodist Church for approximately 75 years where she sang in the choir for several years and served as president of the Womens' Society. She spent her lifetime serving others and until her own illness she spent years visiting the sick and needy. Surviving are her brother Porter Harris and his wife Clara of Candler; sisters Martha Nell Wilson and her husband Alvin and Cleo Conner and her husband Robert; a sister-in-law Betty Harris of Fairview, and ten nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Oakley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Newman officiating. Burial will be at Emma's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
