Mrs. Barbara Claire Davis Hunter, age 96, of Asheville, NC died peacefully Thursday October 30, 2014 at home. A private family celebration of her life will be held at a later time. Barbara Hunter was born September 9, 1918 in Des Moines, IA to the late Walter Aubrey and Genevieve Lockwood Davis. She graduated from Queens College where she met her husband, Joseph Lonsdale Hunter. They were married for 59 years. She was a member of All Souls Episcopal Cathedral in Asheville. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Genevieve Hunter Arnold and Thomas C. Arnold of Hilton Head SC, Susan Hunter Baumann and Carl A. Baumann, III of Hillsborough NC, and Joseph Lonsdale Hunter, Jr. and Cynthia S. Hunter of Winston-Salem, NC, four grandchildren, Copland Arnold Rudolph of Asheville, NC, Thomas Hunter Arnold of Andover, MA, Carl Christopher Baumann of Atlanta, GA and Joseph Lonsdale Hunter, III of Chapel Hill, NC, as well as seven great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her brother, Richard Lockwood Davis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Joseph L. and Barbara Hunter Scholarship, established by Tom and Genevieve Hunter Arnold to honor her father, class of 1937, and her mother. Contributions can be mailed to P.O. Box 7195 Davidson College, Davidson, NC 28035. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
