Barbara Claudia Helton Conner, 66, of 198 O’Donald Road, Asheville, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Hospice Solace Center. A native of Asheville, she was a daughter of the late Huey and Kate Daniels Helton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Conner; four brothers, Carl Maynard, Ernest Maynard, Andrew Helton and Jack Helton and a grand-son, Anthony Clement. She was retired from Bussman Corp. and attended Anderson Branch Free Will Baptist Church in Marshall. Mrs. Conner loved the Lord and was a loving mother to four daughters, Shana Connor and her husband Chris of Jacksonville, FL, Sheila Reynolds and Joe Crain of Asheville, Shannon Garcia and her husband Juan of Asheville and Kathy Blackwell and her husband Dannie of Marshall and a son, Ricky Williams and his wife Diane of Asheville. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Lou Smith and her husband Albert of Asheville; fourteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrell Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Fore Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:30 pm Saturday at the funeral home.
