Barbara Joyce Goforth Banks, 91, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2021.

A native of Madison Co., NC, Barbara was a daughter of the late Walter and Estelle Frye Goforth. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Earle Banks, son, Richard Allen Banks, grandson, Aaron J. Austin, brothers, Walter A. Goforth, Jr., Cecil G. Goforth and Bruce C. Goforth, and great-great-grandsons, Marques Jamal Austin and Alex Banks.

Mrs. Banks retired from Square D in Asheville. She was a charter member of Edgewood Baptist Church, and also a member of The Order of Eastern Star.

Surviving is her daughter, Deborah Banks Pierce (Bruce); son, David Banks (Cheryl); nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Howard Douglas Goforth.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 24, 2021, at Edgewood Baptist Church, 60 Moody Ave., Candler, NC 28715.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Edgewood Baptist Church or to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

  5. I knew and loved Barbara for over 75 years. She was a wonderful neighbor, and life long friend. Praying for all of the family during this time of grief. Please know that she was a blessing to so many people during her life. She will be missed. Bobbie Griffin (Naomi and Ralph Barnett’s daughter).
