Barbara June Simmons Hare, 84, of Asheville, went home to be with her Lord Monday, September 18, 2017 at Mission Hospital. Mrs. Hare was a daughter of the late Lewis and Mattie Thompson Simmons. She was also preceded in death by her son, Martin Hare, Jr. Surviving are her son, Michael Hare; daughter, Marcia Hare Pruitt (Timothy); grandchildren, Cole, Andrew, Alex, Kirsten, and Katelyn; 2 great-grandchildren; and brother JB Simmons (Pam). Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

  8. Ms Barbara was our daughter’s first preschool teacher at First Baptist Child Development Center back in 2000. Madison loved her and we did too from that time forward. We continued to see her at West Asheville Baptist where we all went to church together. She was a wonderful and kind woman who blessed our family with her gifts . She will be missed and we will be praying for your family during this difficult time.

To Michael and Marcie and Barbara’s family, we wish to extend our condolences for the loss of your mother and grandmother She was our neighbor on Skyview Terrace for 38 years and a wonderful, kind friend she was. She was a good Christian woman who lived her faith and was not afraid to share it. We did not see her often during these last few years, but have not and will never forget Barbara Hare.

    We were so saddened to hear of your mother’s death. We had no idea she was so sick. She was our neighbor down the street for 50 years, and our fellow church member.
