Barbara Marie Rickard, 76, of Leicester, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 26, 2015.
A native of Buncombe Co., she was a daughter of the late Walter Stanley Hyatt and Augusta Brookshire Hyatt Godfrey. She was also preceded in death by siblings Jack Hyatt, Billy Jo Hyatt, Walter Stanley Hyatt, Jr., and Pauline Duckett.
Mrs. Rickard worked as a floral designer at Becky's Florist, Middlemont Florist, and Faulkner's Florist. She traveled with her husband while he served with the Armed Force, including living in England. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, the Leicester VFW Auxilary, and was an avid bowler.
She is survived by her husband, Floyd W. Rickard; daughter, Debbie McMahan; son, Tommy Rickard; grandchildren, Billy Joe Adams (Christi), and Mason Rickard; step-grandson Cullen Gossett; great-grandson Cayden Adams; sisters Dixie King, Betty Green (Fred), and Helen Cox; brothers David Hyatt (Ruth), Mike Hyatt, and Bobby Hyatt; special friends Cathy and Tim Moore and Rod Ellis; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Rickard will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bobby Smith officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Burial will be at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery in Black Mountain.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 3800 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215, Leicester VFD, PO Box 100, Leicester, NC 28748, or to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
Marie, I never met a more hard-working individual with a bigger heart than yours. You touched so many lives including my own. Our visits lifted my spirits and made me laugh. You will be missed.
To Dixie, Floyd and all of the family, we are so very sorry for your loss. Marie was such a wonderful woman, and never met a stranger-especially a hungry one. So many wonderful gifts she gave to us, but the greatest gift was her loving friendship and support. Now she has peace with our Lord, and true victory over all. I am so sorry to hear about Marie! She was such a beautiful GOD fearing woman. I’m sure she’s surrounded by all the angels in heaven because she just became 1!
