Barbara Holcombe Lance, 67, of Rosemary Road, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 18, 2006. She was a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County and a daughter of the late Ephris and Pansy Teague Holcombe. Mrs. Lance was employed by American Enka Corporation for 12 years and she attended Crossroads Assembly Church in Asheville. Left behind to cherish her memory are her husband of 26 years, Bill Lance; four daughters, Shirley Constant and husband R.C., Joy Wells and husband Guy, Diana Davis and husband Phillip, Charlene Costa and husband Michael; two sons, Steve Lance and Randy Lance; two sisters, Janet Poe and Linda Fender and husband C.L.; two brothers, Charles Holcombe and Owen Holcombe; eleven grandchildren, Larry Barker, Jr., Marie Davies, Barbie and Carrie Keever, Jenny Player, Bobby, Jesse and Cassandra Davis, William Costa (her buddy “Love”), Tiffany Reese, and Christopher Lance; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Barbara Lance was a beautiful person with a heart of gold. She had a generous soul filled with kindness for all who touched her life. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family and friends. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Friday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. with Reverend J. Michael Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

    Although I do not know alot of Marie’s family this, Mrs. Barbra Lance I did know from the many phone calls and letters she has written to Marie. What a loving ,unselfish person she was! I Can tell you this you will miss her for many many years to come but always remember the love she gave whole heartedly and it will help you through the tough times. Marie will surely miss her grandmother as well as I will. I looked forward to seeing a smile on Marie’s face when she talked to her grandmother.I wish you all happiness and much love and may we all give as much love as she gave to us all.

    Words can not express how very sorry I am. Barb was a wonderful person and I will miss her so much. There were so many days that her laugh and smile made my day. I love you all and you are always in my heart and prayers. Take care of yourselves and if you need anything please let us know. (Bill I still need your expert score keeping for the ball field come spring.)

She was very special to me, she always had a smile and a hug for me. She always had such a positive attidude and thought of others.     Our hearts go out to you at this difficult time. Aunt Barbara was such a delightful woman. I’ll never forget her laugh. She was always so thoughtful and caring. God Bless her sweet heart, the suffering is over for her. I can just picture her beautiful eyes being so delighted with the beauty of Heaven.
