Barbara Smith Adams, 74, of 309 Wiggins Road, Candler, died Sunday, September 9, 2001, in an Asheville hospital.

Mrs. Adams was born in Florida and was a daughter of the late Henry and Clara Edwards Smith. She was a former Personnel Manager for Southeastern Container.

Surviving are her husband, Joseph Russell Adams; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mario and Angie Chale of Smithfield, VA and Joseph and Martha Chale of Hendersonville; four step-children, Joseph Adams, Jr., Brian Adams, Joanne Fredenburg, and Lynne Morton; one sister, Margreate Boden of Asheville and four grandchildren, Jessica, Lauren, Jeffrey and Danielle Chale.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Wednesday at St. Barnabas Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Roger Arnsparger officiating. Entombment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road is in charge of the arrangements.
