Buford Clay "B.C." Mills, Jr., 66, died unexpectedly on Friday, June 3, 2011. He was a former resident of Candler. Mr. Mills was a Vietnam veteran and retired from Allied-Signal (now Honeywell), in Columbia, SC. He is survived by his wife, Irene Israel Mills, of Zephyrhills, FL; parents, Buford C. Mills, Sr., and Myrtle Geraldine Mills, of Candler; brother, Dennis Mills, of Great Falls, MT; sister, Sandra Sue Saunders, of Blairsville, GA; daughters, Stephanie Sue Underwood, and Aprille Christine McKay, of Candler; son, Brian Mills, of Fletcher; three granddaughters, and three great-grandchildren. The Rev. Austin Watts will conduct the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. Burial will follow at Piney Mountain United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Mills' family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

  3. Mr. and Mrs. Mills, Sandi and Dennis and families> I remember going home with Sandi in school and Dennis, Skipper and Sandi always had chores to do because Mrs. Mills worked at furniture store. Sandi’s job was to cut and peel potatoes and start supper. Sometimes – Dennis and Skipper would ’cause a stir’ and there would be a little bit of hair pulling – Sandi’s pretty long blond hair – all in fun.   10. To the Mills Family – Jim & I are so sorry to hear of Buford’s death. I worked with he and Irene at American Enka and Jim grew up with the Mills family at Ridgeway and we both thought highly of Buford. Please remember our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time.

  14. B.C. was a good man and one of the best friends I have ever had. He and I played softball on a church team, and built sheds and porches together. Along with our wives we played Rook, enjoyed vacations and had some interesting discussions. I will miss him. Irene, our love and prayers go out to you and the family.

    It doesn’t seem possible that BC is gone. I had just talked to him 2 days before. I think when we talked, we always tried to cheer each other up. We had lots of laughs together. He will be truly missed, but Heaven has another Angel. Call if you need me, I’m not far away. You will be in my prayers. May God bless you and comfort you. With Love, Peggy
