Belle Wilson Almon, 80, of 200 Tunnel Road, died Thursday, December 12, 2002, at Hospice Solace Center. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late William P. and Cora Jane Whestine Wilson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Spurgeon “Sam” Almon who died in 1959; sons, Harold B. Almon and Robert L. Almon; daughters, DeEtta Robbins and Maxine Couey; brother, Dewey Wilson; sister, Faye Letterman and niece, Shirley Benfield. Mrs. Almon lived in Marion for 27 years until she returned to Asheville in 1987. While in Marion she worked for Marion General Hospital for 18 years in the Dietary Department and was a cook for Marion First United Methodist Church Day Care. She was a member of Cross Memorial Baptist Church in Marion. She is survived by two daughters, Fran Horton and her husband Robert V. Horton, III of Asheville and Becky Chatman and her husband Paul of Newton; a son, Ted Almon and his wife Nell of Demorest, GA; a granddaughter, Jennifer Lane Horton of Asheville; daughters-in-law, Hazel Almon of Asheville and Martha Almon of Wilmington; a sister, Cordie McFalls of Marion; several nieces and nephews; special caregiver Barbara Jones and special friend Linda Rogeaux. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Reverend Doctor Buddy Corbin and Sue Barron officiating. The family will greet friends in the sanctuary following the service at the church. Family and friends may call at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue anytime Friday. Private burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery prior to the memorial service. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813 or to Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund, 531 Haywood Road, Asheville, NC 28806.

  3. My wife Maxine Cornett and Mrs. Almon worked together at First United Methodist Church Daycare.They grew to be very good friends. Maxine loved Belle very much. She died April 20th. They are together again in a new home. May God ease the pain in your heart at this time. Nellis Cornett
