Benjamin Edward Heise, Jr., 73, of 19 Hendrix Drive, Candler, died Monday, August 30, 2010, at the John Keever Solace Center.
Mr. Heise was born in Asheville and was a son of the late Benjamin Edward Heise, Sr. and Lillie Sue Knight Heise. He retired as a Master Sergeant with the US Air Force after 20 years and from Ryder Truck rental where he worked 15 years. Most recently worked for nine years as maintenance engineer at Freedom Baptist Church, where he was a charter member.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Dykes Heise; three daughters, Teresa Lynn Simpson and her husband, John E., of Conway, SC, Susan J. Burson and her husband, Scott, of Huntington, IN, and Elizabeth Hooper and her husband, John, of Mills River; one son, Benjamin Edward Heise, III, and wife, Cheryl, of Candler; 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three sisters, Laura Gray and husband, Carl, Barbara Lamb, and Margaret "Polly" Greene, and husband, Delmas; and one brother, James C. Heise and wife, Vinita.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Freedom Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Keith Hutchinson and the Rev. Everette Haney officiating. Interment with military honors by a detachment from Shaw Air Force Base will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to Freedom Baptist Church Sanctuary Fund, 50 Rice Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
Sarah & Family, We were so sorry to hear that Buck had passed away. You and your family have lost someone very special to you who also meant a great deal to many others, such as Bill,myself and John Clement (to whom he was a great friend)he will be remembered many times with special warmth and affection and often be missed by those who’ll remember along with you. May God’s grace uplift you during this time. Our prayers are with you. The one thing I always think of when Buck’s name is mentioned is his laugh. He seemed to always have a smile for everyone, but if something was really funny to him, he laughed that special laugh that only he had. I am thankful that I was honored to know him. He will be missed by many. Love to all.
