Benjamin Robert Stella, 73, of Fletcher, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the John F. Keever, Jr. Hospice Solace Center. A native of Minersville, PA, Mr. Stella was a son of the late Benjamin and Lucy Casillo Stella. He was an Air Force Veteran and had lived in the Asheville area since 1976. He was retired as a driver with Ingles Markets. A passionate golfer, he was a member of the former Brookwood Golf Club and of Southern Tees. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Basilica of St. Lawrence, D.M. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Tesarik Stella; daughter, Lynda Stella Hawthorne and husband, Jeff; and son, Lance Stella. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Very Rev. Fr. Wilbur N. Thomas, V.F. at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the Basilica of St. Lawrence. Interment with military honors will follow at the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation or to the Hospice Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family with the arrangements.
