Bernice Alberts Davis, 85, of 33 Holly Hill Drive, Asheville, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2004. Born on November 12, 1918 in Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Lucy Curry Alberts. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Samuel Ralph Davis, who died in 1988, and by a brother, Joe Alberts. A graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School and St. Genevieve Secretarial School, she was employed by American Enka Corporation as an executive secretary. She took early retirement in 1963 to be with her grandchildren and to enjoy her hobbies of gardening, knitting and shopping. She was loved and will be dearly missed by her family, including a daughter, Linda Davis Shirlin and her husband, David of Asheville; a son, Joseph Samuel Davis of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Kimberly S. Reed, David L. Shirlin, John and Joe Davis, Lucinda D. Chafin, Leslie D. Black and six great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Friday at Green Hills Cemetery with the Reverend Larry Sprinkle officiating. Her family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Davis, 33 Holly Hill Drive, Tiny Farms, Asheville, on Thursday evening from 5:00-8:00 pm.
