Bernice Whitaker Haynes

Bernice Whitaker Haynes, 95, of 117 Spears Avenue, Asheville, died Thursday, December 7, 2000 in a local nursing facility. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Sam and Luetta Hensley Whitaker. She was preceded in death by her husband Tate W. Haynes. She was former owner and operator of B. Haynes Fashions Hendersonville Road for 25 years and was a buyer with Belk Department Store. Mrs. Haynes was a member of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher. She is survived by her son-in-law and his wife, Fred B. and Billie L. Anders; sisters, Lil Embler and Ina Ammons both of Asheville, Velda Pullen of Aberdeen, NC; grandchildren, Keith Anders, Kim Clements and Karen Anders; great-grandchildren, Alicia Anders, Erin Morrow, Tyler Clements and Kelly Clements. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Green Hills Cemetery. Rev. Bill Bigham and Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen will officiate. Her family will receive friends 7-8:30 Saturday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Avenue.
