Bertha Ensley Henson

Bertha “Bert” Ensley Henson, of Asheville, died Monday, June 12, 2000 in a local hospital. Born June 2, 1914 in Jackson County, she was a daughter of the late John and Ella Henson Ensley. In 1934 she was married to the late Ben P. Henson who died in 1970. She was also preceded in death by two infants, five sisters and six brothers. Bert was a graduate of Cullowhee High School, was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church where she was a member of the Mary Rector Sunday School Class and formerly active in the nursey and various women’s organizations. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Henderson and her husband Larry of Asheville; beloved granddaughter Debbie Carter of the home; brother, Ervin Ensley of Cullowhee and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at West Asheville Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. James H. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her body will remain at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Avenue, until being placed in the church one hour prior to the service for visitation. At other times the family will be at the residence.
