Bessie Mae Henderson Chandler, 96, of 61 Pine Knoll Street,
Asheville, died Saturday, October 24, 1998.
Mrs. Chandler was born in Madison County and was a daughter of the
late Robert and Emaline Treadway Henderson. She was married to John
E. Chandler who died in 1990 and was formerly the lunchroom dietitian at
Sand Hill Elementary School. She was a member of Oak Forest
Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Frances Plemmons; two sons, A.W.
'Woody' Chandler and Dick Chandler, all of Asheville; a sister, Naomi
Thomas of Walnut; a brother David Henderson of Charlotte; and a
number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm Monday at Groce Funeral Home
with the Revs. Kenneth Mullis and Robert E. Harris officiating. Burial will
be at Oak Forest Presbyterian Church Cemetery.<BR
Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Sunday at the funeral
home and request that memorials be made to the Oak Forest Presbyterian
Church Cemetery Fund.
