She was in a rehab facility with family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Gay Snelson, in 2001 and her sister, Doris Nichols and brother Wayne Anders.

She is survived by her three children, Linda Snelson Mackintosh (Bruce), Nan Snelson Rountree (Marcus) and Bruce Snelson (Brenda); grandchildren, Devon Murphy (Matt), Alan Rountree, Adam Snelson, and Mark Snelson (Yamilet); and great-grandchildren, Bella Rountree, Annelise and Olivia Murphy. Betty graduated high school in Asheville and completed an Associate’s degree at Biltmore College. She married Gay Snelson in 1949 and moved to the Snelson family farm in Leicester where she lived in the same home for more than seventy years. She was a beautiful “lady” and so enjoyed getting dressed up, even to go to the grocery store. She loved being involved in her community and church. She was always willing to cook or bake for others and especially loved a community cake walk and square dance.

Betty loved us with all her heart. We shall now carry that love with us forever. The last few years were enhanced by the love and attention of caregivers Jill Penland, Loretta Rice, Teresa Penland, Sandra Cambell and Tammy Baker. We will be forever grateful for their care and compassion.

There will be a private service with Dr. Robert Blackburn of Central United Methodist Church where she was a member.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either Central United Methodist Church, 27 Church St., Asheville, NC 28801, or to the Newfound Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 6, Leicester, NC 28748.
