Betty Ann Smith Summey, 77, of Asheville, our beloved Mother, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at St. Jospeh's Campus, Mission Hospitals. A native of Buncombe Co., she was a daughter of the late Howard Glenn and Addie Sue Kilby Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jerry D. "J.D." Summey; and by a son, Daniel Summey. Mrs. Summey was a lifelong member of Asheville Free Will Baptist Church, and was the Treasurer at the time of her death. She is survived by daughters Rhonda Blankenship and husband, Carroll, of Senea, SC, and Sherry Stacy of Chattanooga, TN; a son, Allan Summey and wife, Sharon, of Bryson City; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a sister, Georgia Bray of Marietta, GA. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Revs. Weldon Ramsey and Donald Holder officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Asheville Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 17695, Asheville, NC 28816-7695.

  5. We were sorry to learn that Betty passed away on Wednesday. Barbara is a first cousin and Betty was 10 months older. Barbara is the daughter of Rose Smith Wyatt and she and Betty played together growing up and spent a lot of time visiting and having a lot of fun together. Barbara has been sick and has laryngitis and can’t talk. We were sorry to be unable to attend the services.
