A good life should be celebrated not mourned.

Betty Carolyn (Norman) Moody, 87, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at Advent Health Hospital.

A native of Marion, Betty was a daughter of the late Jefferson Clifton and Vessie Viola (Brooks) Norman. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Leonard Clinton Moody, who passed away in 2012 and 7 of her siblings.

She was a longtime member of Arden First Baptist Church, where she served many ministries singing in the choir in the early days to, perhaps her favorite activity, welcoming the members and visitors each Sunday with her “bag of candy”. A deep faith in Christ was the anchor of her life. The best way to honor her life is to remember a time she welcomed you at church, served you coffee and desserts while you visited her home or comforted you in a time of need. Do the same for someone else.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Donna Arthur (Charlie), Len Moody (Susan), and Linda Cushman (Jack); grandchildren, Aaron Arthur (Michelle), Jeremy Arthur (Joy), Chelsie Nielsen (Bryan), Jordan Cushman (Kara) and Rachel Moody; great grandchildren, Joanna Arthur, Jesse Arthur, Millie Arthur, Evelyn Nielsen, Linnaea Nielsen, and Joelle Cushman; and siblings Jeanne Hensley, J.C. Norman (Connie), Loree Poteat and Elaine Kask (Larry).

Due the current pandemic restrictions and concerns, a private graveside service will be held for the family. At a later date, a celebration of life will be held for those wishing to participate.

The family requests donations in lieu of flowers can be sent to Arden First Baptist Church, 3839 Sweeten Creek Rd., Arden, NC 28704.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family

Guestbook

  1. Betty was a wonderful person. I enjoyed knowing her during my Glen Arden school years when I taught Linda and later when I worked with Donna at Estes. Your mom was a role model in the community as was your dad. My thoughts, prayers and sympathies are with you.

    • Thank you Beth! You know keeping those kids was the joy of my Mom’s life and she always appreciated keeping in touch with all of you. Although it is hard for us, she is with my Dad and very happy I am sure.

  2. My heartfelt concern for each of you. Betty was a very special person to all she met – giving and caring for others. I remember many times at her house with coffee and dessert. How she loved and cared for us all, especially the children in her day care. Many happy times spent singing around her piano. How blessed I am to have known Betty. My prayers are with you all. Much love and hugs, Barbara

    • Thank you! We all sure did have some good times over the years. I got a sweet card from you just yesterday and appreciated it more than you could know-

  4. Dear Donna and Len. I learned today (Sunday) of your Mom’s passing. My heart and mind are filled with the memories of her and Leonard and of our childhood times together when I got to come over and stay a few days with you all in the Summer. Those times are among the fondest of my youth. Thank you all for your kindnesses and please accept my sincerest condolences. Affectionately. Steve
