Betty June Gaddy Cawthorn, 87, passed away Monday, March 20, 2023 at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center.

Mrs. Cawthorn was born in Buncombe County to the late Harley and Rosetta Hensley Gaddy. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Rosemary Strickland; two brothers, and three sisters.

Betty was a country girl at heart. She loved gardening and was an avid golfer with her husband. She also loved to bowl and was a senior league member at Star Lanes in Asheville for 20 years. She loved her family with all her heart and will be missed.

Betty is survived by her husband of 70 years, Eugene “Gene” Cawthorn; three children, Ricky Cawthorn, Rhonda Cawthorn and Roger Cawthorn and his wife Priscilla; a brother, Larry Gaddy; two sisters, Dorothy Jean Gosnell and Peggy Smith; nine grandchildren, Matthew Howard, Kelli Howard, Joey Gatti, April Dawn Crowder, Brandon Cawthorn, Megan Brooks, Abigail Cawthorn, Zachary Storm Cawthorn and David Madison Cawthorn; four great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service will be held in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at 10:00 am with Pastor Kelvin Moseley officiating.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Chapel at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden.
