Betty Howell Brown, 94, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024 at the Landings Of Mills River.

A native of Greer, SC, she was a daughter of the late Columbus Leo Howell and Mary Alice Clement Howell. Betty was also preceded in death by her husband, James Walter Brown and six siblings, Clement Howell, Carl Howell, Bill Howell, Evelyn Frey, Marian Patat and Frances Ridgeway.

Betty was a faithful and active member of Biltmore Church, having served on several committees. She enjoyed flower arranging and turned her hobby into a business as the owner and operator of The Flower Pot. She also enjoyed annual trips to the beach with dear friends and was an avid sports fan. She treasured time with family and her beloved dog, Lucy.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Conley (her husband, Carl) and Jayne Brown; grandchildren, Kia Cook (her husband, Briggs) and Jeff Conley; great-grandchildren, Sophie Cook, Eli Cook and Henry Cook; step great-grandchildren, Andrew Cook and Sarah Cook, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, April 28 at Calvary Churchyard in Fletcher and will be officiated by Pastor Kelvin Moseley of Biltmore Church.

The family wishes to thank the staffs of The Landings Of Mills River and Four Seasons Care for their loving and dedicated care of Betty.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Betty’s name to Four Seasons Care (www.fourseasonscare.org) or to a charity of one’s own choice.

  8. Loved Betty and Jay as neighbors and has fellow church members. Betty was beautiful inside and out, and Jay was always smiling. He and Don always discussed their love of hot dogs.

  9. I took care of Mrs Betty when I first started my health career at the Landings She will always be one of my favorite residents. If I was ever having a bad day she would always tell me I could come hide in her room. She will be truely missed.

  11. Kathy , Jayne and family! What a wonderful friend Betty was to everyone! She will always be remembered by her kindness, the beautiful flowers she arranged and the time she and your dad gave to the church. I have so many memories from high school through adulthood. I will always cherish the memories!May you find peace and grace .

  14. How we loved Betty and JW Brown. We met them through their flower shop. My family enjoyed many years of the beautiful flowers and their friendship! Betty did the flowers for my wedding and for my sister’s wedding. She also directed our weddings. No one could make the beautiful arrangements that Betty did! We were spoiled by her talents and extra touches. When JW came with the delivery, he brightened your day with his kindness and smile.
    How sorry we are to hear of Betty’s passing. She truly was a lovely, talented lady! We are so blessed to have known her. God’s blessings to her family.
