Betty Jean Merrill Cunningham passed peacefully in grace into her Lord and Savior’s gentle embrace on Thursday, July 7, 2022.

Betty was born June 9th 1930 in Fairview, NC. She was preceded in death by her parents Crawford and Gertrude Merrill and six siblings, Cathleen Franklin, Robert Merrill, T.C Merrill, Willie Capps, Mary Avalone, and Virginia.

Betty is survived by her children Linda Williams and Dennis Cunningham; grandchildren, Heather Hill (Jerry) and Neil Williams and a great granddaughter, Kahlen Hill; her sister Pat Rogers (Rev. Charles Rogers) and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Betty was a beloved pillar in her community and church. She was tirelessly devoted to her family. She was employed by TI Connectivity for 53 years and was a huge UNC Chapel Hill basketball fan.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 11:00 am at Emma’s Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Joshua Wynn officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church from 10:00 to 11:00. Burial will follow at the Church’s cemetery.

  1. I did Betty’s hair for serial years and I was blessed to know her and her family. May God be with the family.

  2. Betty was a sqeet lqdy. She always had a smile on her face. We loved to go to yardsales together! I will truely miss my sweet friend until we meet again!

  3. Ms Betty was a sweet lady very faithful to her God and church and family she sing in the choir at Emma’s Grove and now is sining in the heavenly choir. We will see and hear her again.
