Betty June Harvey Russell, 67, of 10 Ramey Hill Drive, Asheville, died Saturday, December 3, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital following a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Russell was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late William Harry and Bessie Bryson Harvey. She was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church for over 57 years where she was active in the United Methodist Women.
She was a loving wife, mother and Nana, and is survived by her husband of 44 years, John Russell; two daughters, Karen Russell Fletcher Shook of Asheville and Laura Russell-Rice of Lake Lure; one granddaughter, Summer Shook; and two sisters, Myrtle H. LaTour of Pensacola, FL and Ruby Blankenship of Asheville.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. John Erwin officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and suggest that memorials be made to Sardis United Methodist Church, 897 Brevard Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
Dear John, Karen, Laura, Ruby and Myrtle, I am so sad to hear of June’s passing. We grew up together, went through school together, worked at Enka together, and shared so many wonderful times. June was a wonderful person and I will miss her so much. My deepest thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
