Betty Kinchen

May 2, 1953 ~ April 10, 2018
Resided in:
Candler, North Carolina
Elizabeth “Betty” Amanda Kinchen, 64, of Candler passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at her residence. A native of Panama, Betty was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Tilcia Tejeira Kinchen.
Betty held degrees in psychology and physical therapy and worked for many years as a physical therapist with Mission Hospital and subsequently with the WNC Baptist Home. Within her first month at WNC Baptist Home she was recognized as an outstanding employee, a testimony to her strong work ethic.
Betty is survived by her partner of 15 years, Angela Alexander, her loving family in Panama, and her large chosen circle of family and friends in Asheville, NC.
Betty devoted much of her time and energy to caring for her patients and family. Betty was a consummate caregiver with an exceptional capacity to love. Her compassionate care mingled with her sense of humor, kindness, and empathy were gifts to all those privileged enough to share her presence. Betty knew every patient and colleague by first name, shared hugs and blew kisses, asked about family members and silently prayed with those in need. She was an extraordinary mentor as many students and colleagues can attest. By their continuing to model what Betty taught them, her spirit lives on!
Betty had many diverse talents. In addition to her role as a caregiver, she loved plants and gardening. She had an artist’s eye and her photography was distinctive in capturing the beautiful in the ordinary. Betty was also an accomplished chef. After a long day of work, Betty could be found in her kitchen cooking while simultaneously singing and dancing with her four-legged babies.
Simply stated, Betty was a remarkable human being with a beautiful soul. She is deeply loved and cherished and will be deeply missed.
Those who desire may make contributions to Brother Wolf Animal Rescue (31 Glendale Ave, Asheville, NC 28803, www.bwar.org) in memory and honor of Betty.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave is assisting the family.
A celebration of life service will be held on May 5, 2018. Details will be announced at a later date.
Love is a house that even death cannot break down.
Angela,my family and I are praying for you, Betty had such a sweet and loving sprit. We shared my great times together, while working at Mission Hospital. My God bless you .
Angela, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I was a friend of Betty from CNG, where we shared our high school years. We kept in touch though not as frequently as we should have. But our last phone call about a year and a half ago was like always, very happy and warm. I hope that all your memories with her will comfort you during these difficult time. Best regards Margarita Clavijo- in Bogota, Colombia
God bless her soul and offer health and strength to her loved ones.
Ingrid, CNG classmate
We were co-workers for many years, and friends even longer. Betty called me her big brother. I’ll miss her sparkling eyes that seemed to joyfully dance as she spoke of the people and things she loved. Betty had a strong passion for life. She had great devotion to the Virgin Mary, whom I’m sure welcomed Betty to her heavenly home. Till we meet again…. Billito
Angela, so sorry for your loss. Betty loved Sunset Beach almost as much as I do. I have many fond memories of our conversations about your vacations there. I worked with Betty for several years and she was always kind, compassionate and put the patients first. She will be greatly missed. God Bless,
My heart is saddened by Betty’s passing. I remember her sparking personality and the ever positive energy that she shared with all that were willing to get close to her. Wonderful memories from times at CNG in Bogota.
May God bless and give strength to her loved ones in this painful time.
Angela, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I knew Betty from CNG as well as from university years in Bogota. I reconnected with Betty through facebook and our family had lunch with her in Asheville only a couple of years ago. I will always remember Betty’s energy and enthusiasm and her great warmth and compassion for others. I am truly saddened to hear this news. God bless you.
We will all miss Betty, but will be better people for knowing her and her light.
Always in my heart, Betty, I love you so much and I miss you.
With all my love,
your goddaughter
Tilcita
