Arden ~ Betty McLaurin Marlar, 79, of Ardenwoods Retirement Community formerly of Maggie Valley passed away on Monday, August 24, 2009 in Park Ridge Hospital. She was born in Fayetteville, NC and was the daughter of the late Roy William McLaurin and Gladys Estelle Scoggins McLaurin. She was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia McLaurin Best in 1992. Mrs. Marlar was the former operator of the Country Manner Motel in Maggie Valley and was a member of Faith Fellowship of Ardenwoods. She is survived by her husband, Joe Marlar of Arden; a son, Roy William Marlar and his wife Kathy; a granddaughter, Amber Marlar all of Maggie Valley; sister, Nancy Manos and husband John of Waynesville; two nieces, Sharon Clubb and Dr. Heather Manos; nephews, Jeff Blackmon, John Manos and Paul Manos. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Ardenwoods Retirement Community with Pastor Harry Sellers officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216 Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
