Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Owen Gaddy, 71, of 4301 Angelus Circle, Asheville, died Wednesday, November 12, 2003, in Greenville, SC.
A native of Greenville, SC, she was a daughter of the late John Roy and Nellie Mae Simpson Owen. She attended Greenville Senior High School, Meredith College, graduated from Furman University and taught school in Hartsville, SC. An active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, she had served as chair of the Administrative Board and as co-chair of the Funday Program for many years in addition to being a member of the Pastor Parish Committee and the Discovery Bible Class. She was a volunteer at the Rathbun Center and a member of the Home and Garden Club of Asheville, the Salvation Army Auxiliary and the WNC Rescue Mission.
Mrs. Gaddy is survived by her husband, James M. Gaddy; a daughter, Beth Iannone and her husband Louis of Apex, NC; a son, Marshall Gaddy and his wife Rosie of Greenville, SC; three grandchildren, Marie Iannone, Melissa Gaddy and David Gaddy.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with the Reverend Skipper Watwood officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 9:45-10:45 am Saturday at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s UMC Van Fund, 223 Hillside Street, Asheville, NC 28801.

James and family, we are so sorry to read of Betty’s death. Charlie has known Betty since the fifth grade in Greenville. She was a very warm, personable and caring lady. All who knew her will miss her.

I just learned of your wife’s death. Al Merrill sent me an email. I have lived in Charlotte since 2000 when BASF moved what remained of Tech Service out of Enka. Again, I just want you to know that you have my deepest sympathy and we will remember you in our prayers.
