Betty Stewart Penley
September 4, 1934 ~ March 20, 2001

A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Ernest and Bertie Wilds Stewart. She was also preceded in death by her husband Fred V. Penley Jr. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Stewart and a sister, Joyce Stewart. She was a former employee of Woodcrafters, a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary a member of Elk Mountain Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Janet Poole of Asheville; a son, Russell Penley of Weaverville; three grandchildren, Amanda and Laura Poole and Meagan Penley; one sister, Marie Carter of Asheville and one brother, Earl Stewart of Minot, ND.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Huggins officiating. Burial will be at Elk Mountain Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the residence.

My Prayers and thoughts are with you in this great hour of grief. It has to be extremely hard on both of you to loose both parents in such a short period of time. I know they both had been sick for awhile but the lost and hurt is still there.Your mom was a great person as was your father. I know you both will miss her dearly. May it comfort you to know someone is thinking about you and have you in prayer in this sorrowful hour.
