Blair A. Hellebush Asheville ~ Blair Armstrong Hellebush , 87, of Deerfield Retirement Community, died Saturday, March 24th, 2007, at his residence after a short illness. He was 3 months shy of his 88th birthday. Blair was born in Rochester, NY on July 1st, 1919 to the late Charles Kearns and Christine Armstrong Hellebush. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Blair Forman Dismukes; two brothers, Charles K. Hellebush, Jr. and John C. Hellebush and a sister, Betty Hellebush King. Mr. Hellebush graduated from Phillips Academy Andover, Andover, MA in 1938 and the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY in 1942. He then entered the United States Army for the duration of WWII. He attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant after graduating first in his class from Officer Candidate School, Camp Murphy, FL. He also served at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Va until 1945 as a TAC Officer. Blair was a senior executive with Alton Box Board Company until retiring to the Asheville area in 1981. His many interests in retirement included Trinity Episcopal Church, volunteering at Memorial Mission Hospital, Meals on Wheels, Civitan Club, traveling, golf, hiking, and most importantly, spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara Hypes Hellebush; two sons, Peter L. Hellebush and his wife Diana of Winston-Salem, NC and Stephen P. Hellebush and his wife Angela of Denver, Colorado; two daughters, Susan H. Moses and her husband P. Donald of Staunton, VA., Christine H. Dismukes and her husband Paul of Asheville and eight grandchildren, Katrina, Samuel, Hannah, Madeleine and Nathan Hellebush, Whitney and Megan Moses and Elizabeth Dismukes. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, March 30 , 2007 at Trinity Episcopal Church with The Reverend William Whisenhunt officiating In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Blair’s memory to Trinity Episcopal Church, 60 Church St., Asheville NC, 28801 or to Carepartners Mtn. Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC, 28813. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road is in charge of the arrangements.

  5. Blair so touched my heart while I worked with him in physical therapy. He always demonstrated gentlemanly dignity, great humor, and such a love for his wonderful family.
