Asheville - Blake Lee Riddle, 91, of 7 Broadview Avenue, died Monday, March 4, 2002 in a local health care facility.

A native of the Cane River section of Yancey County, he was the son of the late John Robert and Cora Lee Bailey Riddle. He was also preceded in death by his wives, Ruth Hallman Riddle, who died in 1949 and Elva Lance Austin Riddle, who died in 1993; a son, William Cecil Riddle; a stepson, Harold E. Austin and three brothers, Clifton, Earl and Troy Riddle.

Mr. Riddle was a former auto parts salesman with Motor Parts of Asheville and a longtime member and usher at Biltmore Baptist Church. He loved working in his yard, gardening and tending his roses.

He is survived by two sons, Robert Blake Riddle of Myrtle Beach, SC, Larry Dean Riddle of Atlanta, GA; a stepson, Ruel H. Austin of Asheville; a brother, Bernie Riddle of Arden; ten grandchildren, Doris Lee Clemmons, Wendy Dawn Narramore, David and Brian Riddle, Blake Lee Riddle, Hal Austin, Mark Sorrells, Rudy Austin, Claudia DuBose and Jim Austin; ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Rev. Dr. Ian Walker and the Rev. Harold Savell. Interment will follow in Calvary Churchyard.

His family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 Wednesday at the funeral home on Long Shoals Road and at other times will be at the home of Ruel Austin, 93 St. Dunstans Circle, Asheville.
