Bob E. Hinkel went to be with his Lord and Saviour on November 9, 2022. He was born on March 7, 1931 near the small village of Sailor Springs in Clay County, Illinois. He was the only child of Ira Calvin and Martha Grace (McKinney) Hinkel. He grew up on a farm, attended a one-room grammar school, and graduated from Clay City Community High School in 1948.
He was a military veteran who served with the 78 th Ordinance Depot Company, 19th Ordinance Battalion, Seventh Army. He was stationed in West Germany from June 1952 until December 1954 and attained the rank of sergeant.
Upon completion of his military service he attended the University of Illinois at Urbana. He worked in the telephone equipment manufacturing industry, first with the Western Electric Company in Cicero, IL and then with the Automatic Electric Company in Northlake, IL.
In 1960 he and the former Miss Wilhelmina F. Mees were united in marriage at St. Beatrice Catholic Church in Schiller Park, IL. They are the parents of three children, Marijka Anne, John Philip, and Michael Andrew.
In January 1990 he and his wife, Wilhelmina, moved to Henderson County, NC, where they have resided happily for the past 32 years. During these years they have made many friends and acquaintances at St. Barnabas Catholic Church in Arden, NC and at the Habitat for Humanity Stores in Hendersonville, NC.
He is survived by his loving wife, Wilhelmina, daughter Marijka A. Hinkel, son John P. Hinkel, son Michael A. Hinkel and wife, Mindy Hinkel, two granddaughters, Payton Grace Hinkel, and Allison Olivia Hinkel, and two grandsons, Grahm Philip Hinkel, and Gavyn Arthur Hinkel.
Cremation rites were accorded. A Memorial mass will be held at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, Arden, NC on May 21, 2023 @ 0830.
Interment will be in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC.
