Arden – Bobby Edward “Grady” Barrier, 72, of Peachtree Street, died Tuesday, September 19, 2006.
A native of Avery County, he was the son of the late Bob and Ruth Buchanan Barrier. He was an active member of Arden First Baptist Church, serving as deacon, member of the Good Neighbor Sunday School Class, various committees and leader with the RA’s. He was a retired mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service.
Mr. Barrier is survived by his wife of 25 years, Barbara Wimbish Barrier; daughter, Bari Barrier and her husband Frank Miller of Candler; son, Biff Barrier of Candler; three step-sons, Andy Horne and his wife Kellee of Gastonia, Greg Horne and his wife Linda of Jacksonville, Fla. and Jeff Horne of Easley, SC; three grandchildren, Ashley, Casey and Ali; two great grandchildren, Hailey and Trevor and six step-grandchildren, Andrew, Lindsay, Lauren, William, Christina and Nicholas. Also surviving is his sister, Anita Thornton of Midland, NC; his brother Phil Barrier and his wife Mitzi of Newland, NC; his step-mother, Addie Barrier of Newland and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday at Arden First Baptist Church conducted by the Rev Dr. James H. Johnson and Rev. Ollis Revels. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 pm Friday at the Yellow Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery in Avery County conducted by the Rev. Wallace Wise.
Mr. Barrier’s family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 pm Thursday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arden First Baptist Church or to the Joseph Kirby Loftin Scholarship Fund, in care of the church, 3839 Sweeten Creek Road, Arden, NC 28704.
Barbara, You are in our thoughts and prayers. Bob was a special man and a great person to know. I know he will truly be missed.

I was so sorry to hear of Grady’s death, I know he has been through alot the past few years. My parents thought so much of him and now they can all be together in heaven.
