Bonnie Marie Woody Weatherman, 81, of 11 Heaven View Drive, Asheville, died Friday, January 14, 2005, at the Hospice Solace Center. Mrs. Weatherman was born in Swain County and was a daughter of the late L.L. and Birdie Collins Woody. She was also preceded in death by her husband, F.D. “Scotty” Weatherman who died in 1983, a son Bruce Messer, a daughter Bonnie Gaye Roper, and two brothers Fred Woody and Jack Woody. Mrs. Weatherman was a member of Grassy Branch Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted mother to her children and Nannie to her grandchildren. Surviving are one daughter, Peggy Lineberry and her husband William of Lexington; two sons, Don Messer and his wife Pat of Pisgah Forest and Marshall Messer of Sapphire; three step-sons, Kenneth Weatherman and his wife Wanda of Asheville, Ronnie Weatherman and his wife Bobbie of Florida, and Terry Weatherman and his wife Butsaba of Florida and a step-daughter, Pam Trigmano and her husband John of Florida; two sisters, Elizabeth Oxner of Gladstone, VA and Judy White of Columbia, SC; five brothers, Elmer Woody of Asheville, Pete Woody of Alexander, Jerry Woody of Arden, Bob Woody of Murphy and Kelly Woody of Orlando, FL; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with Chaplain Jane Curran and Mr. Kenneth Weatherman officiating. Burial will be at Pisgah View Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and suggest that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

    I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your stepmother. While you were visiting with me during Paul’s illness, I had no idea Bonnie was sick as well. I’m praying that God gives you the sense of peace he’s given me since Paul’s passing. I love you.
