Brenda G. Gentry, 76, passed away at home Wednesday, January 2, 2019. A native and life long resident of Henderson County, she was the daughter of the Late Jason and Vesta Barnwell Garren. Brenda was a graduate of West Henderson High School in 1962, a member of Fletcher First Baptist Church and active with the youth of the church. She enjoyed travel and camping and preparing food for her family and church. She greatly looked forward to the birth of her first great grandchild, due in March. Brenda is survived by her husband of 53 years, Pastor David Gentry; two daughters, Marlene Hoffman (Lee Going) and Sonya Hall (Robert); five grandchildren, Michaela Bryson (Mike Polk) and Michael Bryson, Trinity Dunlap, Nathaniel Dunlap and Peter Hall. She is also survived by her siblings, Annette Wright, Wayne and Charles Garren. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday in Fletcher First Baptist Church conducted by Pastors Roy Waldroup and Darrin Waldroup. Interment will follow in Hoopers Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Bryson, Nathaniel Dunlap, Mike Polk, Andrew Rhodes, Ryan Brackett and Ethan McMinn. Honorary Pallbearers will be Luke and Zack McMinn. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 Friday evening at Fletcher First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Gideon’s International, Four Seasons Hospice or Fletcher First Baptist Church. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
