Bruce was born on June 8, 1931 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Essie Bee and Raymond W. Coleman. He attended St. Alban’s High School in Washington, D.C., then went on to study at Swarthmore College and West Virginia University. He received his Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Business Administration from Indiana University.

Bruce was a professor of management at Michigan State University, teaching for 35 years, and was Director of the MBA Program there.

He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve for 28 years, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Bruce enjoyed woodworking, bowling, playing pool, walking in the woods, bridge and other card games, and collecting cookie jars. He was devoted to his family, and enjoyed making people laugh.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis Jean Coleman; daughter Robbie Coleman and son-in-law Don Kendall of Asheville, NC; daughter Lisa Coleman of Tucson, AZ; and nieces Laura Sexton of Roanoke, VA and Debbie Coleman of Lynchburg, VA.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Ellsworth P. Coleman.

No local service is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of one’s choice.
