Calvin Carl Rash, 90, died Saturday, November 9, 2013, at his home.
Mr. Rash was born in Union, SC and was a son of the late Carries Eugene and Addie Foster Rash.
He served in WW II with Patton's 3rd Army, 6th Armored Division in five battle campaigns and at the Battle of the Bulge. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star.
Mr. Rash retired in 1986 from NCI, where he was a tool and dye maker. He enjoyed NASCAR racing, antique cars, and spending time with family and friends.
He was married for 51 years to the late Helen Corn Rash, and was also preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are his children, Gerd Geissel (Lottie) of Germany, Theresa Tweed (Jerry), Phillip Rash (Cindy), Vicky Boyd (Jack), Donnie Rash (Angela), Tim Gaddy (Cynthia), Gina Socher (Sam), and Jamie Rash (Beverly); a brother, Verlon Rash; nineteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Allen Rash and Lewis Melton officiating and the Asheville High School Marine ROTC Unit providing military honors.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Alexander, conducted by the Rev. Harold Rash.
The family expresses appreciation to Nola Rash, Charlie Treadway (our red-headed stepbrother), and Monica Mendez for their friendship to our Dad, and a special thank you to CarePartners Hospice and the VA Home Health Care and Bright Star, all his caregivers, including Terry, Penny, Amber, and Jenny from the VA.

Every time I play the wash tub bass, I will think of you and your family.
Thinking of the family with our very best thoughts, I will always remember that every time I would visit with Calvin mostly at Vicki & Jack’s house my Brother & Sister-in- Law , Calvin would tell the story about Ed my husband saved his life by bringing him a coat & sweat pants when they were at the beach it was a very cold day, while visiting our home in Oxnard CA with his family. I am so sorry to hear about Calvin. I have many fond memories of the meals and craziness of the Rash household. May God lift you up and bring you his loving peace at this time and in the times to come.My prayers and love are with you all.
So sorry for your loss. My daddy (Gordon Metcalf) always spoke highly of Mr. Rash, always had a lot of respect for him (they both lived in Woodfin and worked together many years at NCI). And, I’ll always love Teresa and feel toward her like family. We’re thinking of all of you all and sending love and peace.
