Candler Hutchinson Jones, 84, of 153 Big Sandy Mush Road, Leicester, went to be with his Lord on Monday, August 6, 2007. He was the son of the late Horace and Lavada Hutchinson Jones and the brother of the late Lattie Jones and Connie J. McGonagle. Candler was an Army veteran of WW II, serving in Germany, and was a lifelong cattle and tobacco farmer. He was an active member of Jones Valley Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Surviving are a sister, Faye Ferguson; nephews Ronnie Goldsmith, Tim King, Wayne King, and Riley, Craig and Joe Jones; and nieces Sandra King, Kimberly Gosnell, Sheletha King, Penny Herron, Debra Gregg, Geneva Duckett, Billie Walker and Grace Conrad. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Jones Valley Baptist Church with the Revs. Tom Dorsey and Garry Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. Flowers will be appreciated or memorials may be made to the Jones Valley Baptist Cemetery Fund, c/o Faye Ferguson, 153 Big Sandy Mush Road, Leicester, NC 28748, or to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813. The family would like to thank all their family and friends and neighbors and the Hospice staff for their prayers and support during his illness.
