Carl Borden (C.B.) Wells, 90, of 68 Mildred Avenue, Asheville, died Saturday, January 18, 2003. Mr. Wells was a lifelong resident of Asheville and attended Asheville city schools. For many years he owned and operated Wells Pure Oil Station (later Wells Union 76 Station) on Haywood Road in West Asheville. He is survived by two sisters, Margaret Schuetrum of Orlando, FL and Lanelle Blankenship of Barnardsville; a brother, Forrest T. Wells of Huntsville, AL, and six nephews. His family will receive friends from 6 - 8 pm Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. Private interment will be at Green Hills Cemetery.

  1. Lanelle and Family, I was distressed to read about Borden in this morning’s paper. Being away from Asheville for almost 40 years I had lost track of him but could not believe he was 90 years old. I used to do business with him at both the corner of Virginia and Sand Hill Rd. We are never ready to give them up. Your old friends in the Class of 43 are thinking of you. I think we started at Vance together in 1932 and I have a picture of our 3rd grade class with you standing by Alden Ryon. Come and see old friends at the 60th Reunion in May 2003. Joe Clark
