Carlton Earl "Buzz" Sawyer, SMSgt, USAF (Ret.), 85, of Weaverville, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014. Mr. Sawyer was born in Norfolk, VA, and was a son of the late Lucie L. Dewberry and Paul Sawyer. He was also preceded in death by wives Selma Rebecca Sawyer in 1972, and Joan Carol Sawyer in 2001; and by sisters Barbara Jean King and Joan Morris. Mr. Sawyer was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring as Master Sergeant after twenty-nine years of service in many countries around the world, including Vietnam. He is survived by step-sons Craig Lieder and wife Donna of Asheville, and Robert Lieder of Virginia Beach, VA; daughter Terry Sevitz and husband David of Aurora, CO; grandchildren Erin Lieder, Jennifer Lieder, Lori Sevitz-Padilla and husband Daniel, and Timm Sevitz; great-grandchildren Austin and Ella Padilla; sister Dorothy Tebault and husband Robert of Virginia Beach, VA; brothers-in-law Robert Morris of Chesapeake, VA, and Carlton King of Nags Head, NC; nieces and nephews Scott Tebault and wife Joyce, Mark Tebault and wife Renee, Robin Phillips and husband Johnny, Andy Morris and wife Heidi, Kathy Barbieri and husband Dan, Pam Waldron and husband John, and Carla Richards and husband Rob; and cousins Gloria Mayo and Virginia Coleman, both of Chesapeake, VA. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, August 2, at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
