Carlton Stewart Maney, 92, of Waynesville, passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021, at the Elizabeth House.

A native of Buncombe Co., Carlton was a son of the late Hughie L. and Annie Sloop Maney. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Howard, Forest, Conrad, Gilbert and Donald Maney, and his step-son, Scott Lance.

Mr. Maney was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School, Class of 1948, and he enjoyed attending class reunions. He worked as an area manager for NC and Northern VA for Colonial Warehouse. He was a Past Master of the Milbrook Masonic Lodge in Raleigh and a member of the Oasis Shriners. He attended Hazelwood Presbyterian Church.

He was also a past president of the Haywood County Shriners Club.

Surviving is his wife, Evelyn Chambers Maney; sons, Randy Maney (Jackie) and Rick Maney; daughter, Kim Whitfield (John); step-son, Gary Lance (Kathy); grandchildren, Johnny Whitfield and Jennifer Travis (Jesse); step grandchildren, Merritt Tongen, and Candice and Andrew Lance; and several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15, in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with Pastor Steve Muzio officiating.

Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, 950 West Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605, or to Hazelwood Presbyterian Church, PO Box 67, Waynesville, NC 28786.
