Carolyn Taylor Moore

carolyn moore

September 2, 1946 ~ December 2, 2024

Born in: Asheville, NC
Resided in: Arden, NC

Carolyn Taylor Moore, 78, of Arden, NC shook off the earthly body that had kept her imprisoned by pain and heartache for so many years and stepped into the arms of Jesus in the early morning hours of December 2, 2024.

Born in Asheville, she was the daughter of the late Willis Broadus Taylor Sr. and Lillian Todd Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Sam Taylor and Willis B “Buddy” Taylor Jr., nephew, Timothy Taylor and son-in-law, Jeffery Todd Hewitt.

Carolyn is survived by her sister, Patricia Taylor Earwood (Jim); her children, James Darren Moore (Amy) and Tracie Moore Hewitt; 3 grandchildren: Marcie Nihart (Lyn), Henry “Taylor” Hart and Andrew Moore (Courtney); 3 great-grandchildren Anna Grace Ray, Theo and Bryer Moore and several nieces and nephews.

Carolyn always welcomed visitors with a glass of sweet tea and her down home southern cooking. Fried chicken, cornbread, potato pie and homemade fudge being some of her specialties. Nothing gave her more joy than her children and preparing a meal in fellowship with friends and family.

Carolyn was a 1965 graduate of Reynolds High School where she was a cheerleader and creator of mischief. She loved to make people laugh. She also sang with a group “The Brookwoods”. She became a member of the American War Mothers. She once held office of 3rd Vice Chairman of the Democratic Party in Buncombe County, but would eventually change her affiliation to Republican. Regardless of party, her love for her country never changed. Carolyn worked for Piedmont Airlines, Asheville Industries, Ingles and K Bryant and Associates during her early years, but what she enjoyed most was her role as Mother and homemaker.

The family would like to thank Four Seasons Hospice and Life Care Center of Hendersonville for the incredible care they provided. She “adopted” several caregivers into our family. A special Thank You to family friend, Gary Morse, for all of the meals he took to Mom and spending so many hours visiting with her. Gary was like a son to her in so many ways.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, December 15, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian in Arden. Friends will be received from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service. Reverend Tony Youngblood will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Four Seasons Hospice.

May God give you Peace and understanding during a difficult time. My heart goes out to her Sister Pat and Husband Jim Earwood whom I love so dearly. To Trace her Daughter and Darren her son. May Carolyn My friend and classmate, rest in peace. In His Name. Love Shirley Taylor

  1. So many wonderful memories shared with Carolyn. I will miss her dearly… but I will always feel her close and see her smile in my heart.

  2. Darren & Tracie, I’m heartbroken hearing about your mother. She was always very good to me and my family. Some of my best memories are from the Christmases we shared as young children at Mamaw & Papaws house. Your mom always made it fun and memorable. The fun times we had in Oak Park watching early “cable” TV. Praying for you guys. Love Shawn T

  3. Just the other day she sent me encouraging words for a friend of mine that passed , long family friend and always a prayer warrior, growing up she was always so good to me , fly high my friend Love to you.

  4. Carolyn was a true sister, not saying we did not have our problems, but we were sisters, when Jim would have to leave us to go overseas while serving in the Marine Corp, she was there for me, we had some wonderful times together and some not so good but our love and bond we had never changed, she is with family and friends now that went on before her but most of all she is with her Lord and Savior the one she longed to see, my dear Tracie you were so vigilant watching over you Mom, and Darren knowing you were with her meant a lot to her, she loved you both beyond measure, you were absolutely her life, but at last no more pain or heartaches, love you sister

  5. Carolyn was a dear friend of mine in high school. I am so thankful we reconnected on Facebook and shared our faith with each other.

I send my deepest sympathy to Carolyn’s family. May God comfort you and hold each one in the palm of His Hand. My heart is broken but I know Carolyn is well and with her loved ones in Heaven.

    Sincerely,
    Dianne Burleson Phillips

  6. There are not enough words to tell how much Carolyn meant to me for she was my sister ( not sister-in-law). Our high school years were full of times singing, being so full of laughter and jokes. I will carry her in my heart till I’m Home with her plus all of our family there. My son Tim loved her so much, spend time with her even when he would have to call Bud & I to come get him back home. Now they are together & what a celebration for them but shall be for all of us. Pat and Jim was always there for us plus Sam . Praying for Tracie, Darren & all of her family as they are my family. God watch over all for one day we will see Jesus face to face and then our precious ones who went before us. God’s Word tells us ” to be absent from this body is to present with the Lord ” so Carolyn is there waiting for us.

  7. My condolences to the family. I knew Carolyn and her family from our school days at Reynolds. She always had a smile and kind words.
